What's in this category?

The calculators here fit into three groups. For shopping and personal tasks there are the Percentage, VAT, Advanced Discount, Tip, Basic, Age, Time Until Date and BMI tools. On the money side, the Loan and ROI calculators let you put numbers side by side before you commit to anything.

The third group is specific to working life in Turkey: Net-Gross Salary, Income Tax, SGK Premium (SGK is Turkey's social security institution), Severance Pay, Notice Pay, Overtime Pay, Annual Leave and the EYT Rough Check. EYT refers to a Turkish early-retirement arrangement for people insured before a 1999 cutoff. These tools estimate results with the year's parameters stated on each page. They give a first idea, not an official calculation.

Which tool for which job?

• To pull VAT out of a shelf price or add it to a net amount, use the VAT Calculator. When a sale combines a discount and tax, use the Advanced Discount Calculator.
• If a job offer is quoted as gross pay, the Net-Gross Salary Calculator shows your take-home amount. For the employer's premium cost, use the SGK Premium Calculator.
• Leaving a job in Turkey? Run the Severance Pay and Notice Pay calculators together, since they cover two different entitlements.
• Comparing car or mortgage offers? Enter the same amount and term into the Loan Calculator with each bank's interest rate.
• To see what an investment returned over a period, use the ROI Calculator. For a simple change between two values, the Percentage Calculator is enough.
• Planning a holiday? The Annual Leave Calculator shows your entitled days, and the Time Until Date Calculator counts down.

Things to keep in mind

• Tax brackets, minimum wage, the severance ceiling and SGK rates change over time. Before a real decision, confirm current figures with the official Turkish sources (GİB, SGK or e-Devlet).
• Severance, notice and EYT results are estimates. Your contract, how employment ended and your insurance history can change the outcome, so talk to an employment lawyer or accountant if there is a dispute.
• Your inputs are remembered in your browser. On a shared computer, clear the fields after entering salary details.
• BMI uses only height and weight and ignores muscle mass and age. Ask a doctor for an actual health assessment.
