How to write a good prompt
Two people asking about the same topic often get very different answers. The difference is usually not the AI's ability but the clarity of the instruction. These five elements form a simple framework that works for everyday tasks:
- Role and context: Say who you are or who the answer is for. Example: “I run a small boutique shop.”
- Task: Use one clear verb: write, summarise, compare, list, fix.
- Input: Include the text or information to work on; fill in the bracketed fields.
- Format: Say how you want the answer to look: 5 bullets, a table, 100 words, an email.
- Constraints and tone: Formal or friendly, what to avoid, which language to use.
A before-and-after example
| Weak prompt | Strong prompt |
|---|---|
| Write a product description. | Write a 60-80 word product description in a friendly tone for the product below, using the keyword “handmade soap”. Product: lavender soap. Features: natural ingredients, 100 g. |
| Fix this text. | Fix only the spelling and punctuation in the text below without changing its meaning or style. List the places you changed separately. |
Tips for working with prompts
- Do not expect the perfect answer in one go. After the first result, ask for small changes such as “make it shorter” or “more formal”.
- Break long jobs into steps: draft first, then edit, then format.
- For information you are unsure about, ask the tool to explain its sources or assumptions, and verify it yourself.
- Read the result before sending it; in customer, work and academic writing the final check is yours.
- Save the prompts that work and turn them into your own templates.

Frequently asked questions
What is a prompt?
A prompt is the instruction or question you type into an AI chat tool. The clearer you are about what you want, for whom and in what format, the more useful the answer.
How do I use the prompts here?
Press the Copy button under a prompt, paste it into a tool such as ChatGPT or Claude, and fill the bracketed fields (like [product name]) with your own details.
Are the prompts free, and do I need to sign up?
Yes, all are free and need no sign-up. The prompts sit on the page; what you type is not sent to DigiKitApp, and the privacy terms of the tool you paste into apply.
Can I trust AI answers?
AI can give wrong, outdated or invented information. Always verify figures, dates, and legal, medical or financial topics against official or reliable sources.
Should I put personal information in a prompt?
Avoid ID numbers, passwords, banking details and other people's private data. Use example or anonymised data when needed.
Can I adapt the prompts?
Of course. Add or remove details such as tone, length and format. If the answer is not what you expected, refine the prompt and try again.
