Social Media Prompts – how to use them

Social copy changes with the platform: Instagram is short and visual, LinkedIn is more professional and informative. Naming the platform, audience and tone in the prompt helps the AI pick the right voice. Ask for the same idea separately for each platform.

AI may not know current hashtag popularity or algorithm changes; check suggestions in the platform’s own search. Do not use fake reviews, invented statistics or someone else’s images. For paid or sponsored posts, follow the platform’s and the law’s labeling rules.

  • State the platform, audience and tone.
  • Ask for an attention-grabbing first line.
  • Check hashtag ideas in the platform’s search box.
  • Do not paste the same text on every platform.

Example: a weak prompt and a strong prompt

Weak prompt

Write an Instagram caption.

Strong prompt

Write a short, attention-grabbing Instagram caption promoting the product below. Product: handmade soy candle, lavender scent, 40-hour burn time. Tone: warm and simple. At most 3 sentences.

Sample output generated with Claude

A small ritual to slow the evening: a handmade lavender soy candle. 40 hours of a soft, calm scent. 🕯️ You grab your evening tea, let the candle burn.

(Emoji use depends on your brand; remove it if you prefer.)

This output is an example from running the strong prompt above with Claude. Results can differ in ChatGPT, other tools or at other times; check the output yourself before using it.

Frequently asked questions

Are hashtag ideas current?

Not always. AI cannot see live popularity; check suggestions in Instagram’s or LinkedIn’s search.

Can I use the same text on every platform?

You can, but results are weaker. Each platform has its own length and tone; ask for the text again per platform.

Do I have to label AI-made visuals and text?

Rules differ by platform and country. For ads and sponsored content, check the labeling requirements and platform rules.
