Exam Net Score Calculator
Enter the number of questions, correct and wrong answers, and pick the penalty to get your net score.
Net score formula
Net = Correct − Wrong ÷ Penalty. Blank questions do not affect the net. The penalty depends on the exam:
- 4: YKS (TYT, AYT), KPSS, ALES, DGS — four wrong answers cancel one correct.
- 3: LGS — three wrong answers cancel one correct.
How to use it
- Enter the total number of questions (for example 90 for LGS, 40 for one TYT test).
- Enter your correct and wrong counts.
- Choose the penalty and press Run to see blanks, net and success rate.
Worked examples
| Exam | Questions | Correct | Wrong | Penalty | Net | Success |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| General test | 120 | 80 | 20 | 4 | 75.00 | 62.50% |
| LGS | 90 | 70 | 12 | 3 | 66.00 | 73.33% |
In the first example 20 wrong answers cancel 5 correct ones: 80 − 20÷4 = 75. In the second, 12 wrong cancel 4 correct: 70 − 12÷3 = 66.
Things to keep in mind
- To calculate individual subjects, run the tool once per subject, or use the TYT tool for a subject-by-subject view.
- If an exam changes its penalty, check the current guide.
- Net is not the same as the score; weights and statistics are set by the exam authority.
Which exams is it for?
For exams with a penalty of 4 (the TYT and AYT sessions of YKS, KPSS, ALES, DGS) four wrong answers cancel one correct one. In LGS the penalty is 3. You can also use the tool for a single subject: for a 40-question Turkish test enter 40 as the number of questions. With several subjects, run it once per subject and add the nets. If an exam guide changes the penalty or the number of questions, update the fields; the tool is not tied to a single exam.
Net score is not the same as the exam score
The net is a raw figure worked out from your correct and wrong answers. The exam score is found by converting nets into standard scores, and that conversion takes the overall performance of that year's candidates into account.
So the same net can correspond to a different score in different years. Tracking whether your net rises in practice tests is a good way to see progress, but predicting an exact score or ranking from a net can be misleading.
Frequently asked questions
How is the net score calculated?
Net = correct − wrong ÷ penalty. In most Turkish exams (YKS, KPSS, ALES, DGS) the penalty is 4; in LGS it is 3.
How is the LGS net calculated?
In LGS three wrong answers cancel one correct one: net = correct − wrong ÷ 3. Select 3 as the penalty.
What does the success percentage show?
It is the net score divided by the total number of questions, so blanks and wrong-answer penalties lower it.
Does it calculate the exam score too?
No. Scores come from the exam authority's own statistical method; this tool gives the net only.
