Work Hours Calculator

Enter start and end time, break length and number of days to see total hours worked and optional pay.

What does the tool do?

When filling in a timesheet, invoicing freelance time or checking a shift, you need the net time between a start and an end time. This tool subtracts the break, handles night shifts correctly and gives the result both as hours and minutes and as decimal hours.

How to use it

  1. Pick the start and end time.
  2. Enter the break in minutes if any (e.g. 60).
  3. For several days, enter the number of days.
  4. Optionally enter an hourly rate to get the total pay.

22:0006:0030 min7 h 30 min7.50
13:1519:450 min6 h 30 min6.50

Someone working 8.5 hours a day for 5 days has 42.5 hours in total. With a rate of 300 per hour the total gross comes to 12,750.

Why decimal hours matter

Multiplying hours and minutes directly is a common mistake: 8:30 is not 8.30 but 8.5. You must divide minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. The decimal output can go straight into a spreadsheet or invoice.

A short note on the legal framework

  • Under the Turkish Labour Law normal weekly working time is at most 45 hours and a working day cannot exceed 11 hours.
  • Rest breaks: 15 minutes up to 4 hours, 30 minutes for 4-7.5 hours, at least 1 hour for longer.
  • Overtime pay and other details vary by workplace and contract; the tool does not calculate them.

Frequently asked questions

How are working hours calculated?

Subtract the start time from the end time, then subtract the break. 09:00-18:30 is 9 h 30 min; after a 60-minute break it is 8 h 30 min, or 8.5 decimal hours.

Can it handle night shifts?

Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time the shift is treated as ending the next day. For example 22:00-06:00 is 8 hours.

What are decimal hours for?

Pay calculations need hours and minutes as a decimal: 8 h 30 min = 8.5 hours. Multiply by the hourly rate to get gross pay. The tool can do that for you if you enter a rate.

What are the legal working-time rules in Turkey?

Under the Labour Law normal weekly working time is at most 45 hours; the rest break is 15 minutes for work up to 4 hours, 30 minutes for 4 to 7.5 hours and at least 1 hour for longer work. This tool only computes duration and does not calculate overtime pay; check the law or an employment lawyer for details.
