Overtime Pay Calculator (Turkey)
Calculate your 50%-premium overtime pay based on your monthly gross wage and overtime hours worked.
Overtime Pay Calculator is built to avoid the common mix-ups that come with this kind of calculation; just enter your numbers. Overtime Pay Calculator helps you skip the small mistakes that come with doing this by hand — rounding errors, mixed-up formulas — enter the numbers and get the result instantly. The whole process happens locally in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
Step-by-step
- Enter your gross monthly salary from your payslip in Monthly gross wage (TRY), not your take-home pay.
- Enter the total hours you worked beyond 45 per week during the period in Overtime hours. If you don't track them, add up the weekly excess from your clock-in records.
- Click Run.
- Compare the result with the overtime line on your payslip. The figure is gross, so the amount you receive after tax will be lower.
When is it useful?
Use it to check whether overtime shows up correctly on a Turkish payslip, to estimate extra earnings during a busy stretch, or, as an employer, to price the overtime a project will need. Under Turkish Labor Law No. 4857, the standard working week is capped at 45 hours, and each hour beyond that is paid at the normal hourly rate plus 50 percent.
Example
In practice, Turkish payroll usually finds the hourly gross rate by dividing the monthly gross by 225. On a monthly gross of 45,000 TRY, that gives 45,000 / 225 = 200 TRY per hour, so an overtime hour is paid at 1.5 times that, or 300 TRY. Ten overtime hours in a month come to 3,000 TRY gross. The tool's figure may differ slightly depending on the divisor it uses.
Overtime pay and “overtime compensation”
What people informally call “overtime compensation” is called overtime pay in Turkish labor law. It is the overtime hourly rate (monthly gross ÷ 225, times 1.5) multiplied by the overtime hours: on a monthly gross of 45,000 TRY, 10 hours come to 10 × 300 = 3,000 TRY gross. It is separate from the notice or severance pay due when an employment contract ends; for notice pay see the notice pay calculator. For disputes such as unpaid overtime, consult an employment law specialist.
Things to keep in mind
- Turkish regulations cap overtime at 270 hours a year, and the employee's consent is required.
- If your contract sets a working week shorter than 45 hours, time between your contracted hours and 45 counts as a separate category with a lower premium.
- Overtime can be compensated with time off instead of money, at one and a half hours of leave per overtime hour.
- Some contracts say overtime is included in the salary. Whether that clause holds depends on the circumstances, so ask an employment law specialist if in doubt.
