Image Tools
Tools for image editing tasks like compressing, resizing, format conversion, and background removal. All of it runs in your browser via the Canvas API.
What's in this category?
You can group the image tools by the kind of change they make. Size and dimensions are handled by the Image Compressor, Image Resizer and Image Cropper. Format changes are handled by JPG to PNG, PNG to JPG and the WebP Converter. When preparing a web page or a store listing, you will often use one tool from each group back to back.
The others cover narrower jobs. The Background Remover cleans up product and profile photos, the Favicon Generator turns a logo into site icon files, and the Image Color Picker gives you the code of a color at a chosen point. Image to Base64 turns a picture into text you can embed in code, and Image to Text (OCR) makes the writing in a photo editable. As the page intro says, all of this runs in your browser via the Canvas API.
Which tool for which job?
- Phone photo too big for an email attachment? Bring the width down with the Image Resizer first, then set quality in the Image Compressor.
- If a marketplace wants product shots on a plain background, use the Background Remover.
- To make the photos on your website lighter, run them through the WebP Converter.
- To give a designer or print shop your exact brand color, sample it from your logo with the Image Color Picker.
- Instead of retyping text from a sign, a business card or a printed page, use Image to Text (OCR).
- Launching a new site? Make the browser tab icon with the Favicon Generator.
Things to keep in mind
- Converting JPG to PNG does not bring back lost quality. Only the format changes, and the file usually gets larger.
- Going from PNG to JPG fills transparent areas with a solid color. Keep logos and other images that need transparency as PNG or WebP.
- Compressing the same image again and again loses a little more detail each time. Keep the original and start every edit from it.
- OCR can misread blurry, tilted or handwritten images. Check numbers and names one by one.
