Time Until Date Calculator
Calculate how much time is left until a specific date.
Enter a target date and time to see the remaining (or elapsed) time in days, hours and minutes.
Time Until Date Calculator is built to avoid the common mix-ups that come with this kind of calculation; just enter your numbers. Time Until Date Calculator helps you skip the small mistakes that come with doing this by hand — rounding errors, mixed-up formulas — enter the numbers and get the result instantly. Everything runs in your browser — your file or text is never uploaded to a server.
Step-by-step
- Pick the day you're counting toward in the 'Target Date' field. If you choose a date in the past, the tool shows elapsed time instead of time remaining.
- Fill in 'Time (optional)' if the exact hour matters, such as when an exam starts or a sale ends. Without it, the result can be several hours away from your real deadline.
- Click 'Run' to see the remaining time in days, hours and minutes.
- The number doesn't tick down on its own. Click the button again whenever you want a fresh figure.
Example
You have a project due at 5 pm on the 15th, and it's 5 pm on the 1st of the same month. The tool will show exactly 14 days. Leave the time field empty and the answer can be off by several hours, which matters when work tends to slip into the final day.
It works backwards too. Enter the day you quit smoking, started a new job or the date your child was born, and you'll see how many days have passed since then.
How is the remaining time shown?
The tool gives the difference between the date and time you pick and right now as days, hours and minutes. If you leave out the time, the target is taken as 00:00 on that day. If the target is in the past, the result is shown the same way with “ago” added; if it is in the future, “remaining” is added. A difference under one minute shows as “less than a minute”. Seconds are not shown and minutes are rounded down. The calculation uses your browser's clock and time zone.
When calculating time
- If you pick a day without a time, the start of that day (00:00) is used. For an exam or event that is in the afternoon, enter the time as well, or the result will be several hours too long.
- In a time zone with daylight saving, dates that cross a clock change can differ by one hour from what you expect in days and hours.
- The tool only gives the calendar difference; it does not remove weekends or holidays. For a working-day count use the business days calculator.
- For an official deadline (application, payment, legal period) follow the institution's own counting rule; the tool only gives an estimate.
Things to keep in mind
- The calculation uses your device's clock. If your phone or computer shows the wrong time, the result will be off by the same amount.
- For an event in another country, convert its start time into your own time zone before entering it.
- Days are calendar days. Weekends and public holidays are not excluded, so this isn't a working-day calculator.
- For legal or administrative deadlines where missing the date has consequences, confirm how the period is counted with the relevant office or a professional.
