Turkish ID Number Validator

Enter the 11-digit number to see whether it satisfies the format and the 10th and 11th digit rules. The number is not looked up; it is checked in your browser.

How is a Turkish ID number validated?

A Turkish national ID number has 11 digits and is not random; the last two digits are check digits calculated from the earlier ones. This catches most typing mistakes. The tool checks these conditions:

  1. The number must contain digits only and be exactly 11 digits long.
  2. The first digit cannot be 0.
  3. 10th digit: the sum of the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th digits is multiplied by 7 and the sum of the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th digits is subtracted; the remainder when dividing by 10 must equal the 10th digit.
  4. 11th digit: it must equal the remainder when the sum of the first 10 digits is divided by 10.

Worked example

Take 10000000146 as a number that satisfies the rule. It is only a sample that fits the rule; it is not claimed to belong to anyone.

StepCalculationResult
Sum of digits 1, 3, 5, 7, 91+0+0+0+12
Sum of digits 2, 4, 6, 80+0+0+00
10th digit(2×7 − 0) mod 104
Sum of the first 10 digits1+0+0+0+0+0+0+0+1+46
11th digit6 mod 106

The calculated 4 and 6 equal the number's 10th and 11th digits, so the number satisfies the rule.

What does the result mean?

  • Valid: format and check digits are correct. The number does not have to be real.
  • Invalid: the tool states why: digit count, first digit, or which check digit does not match and the expected value.

Things to keep in mind

  • The tool does not perform an identity lookup; use official institution services for identity verification.
  • If hidden spaces come along when you copy the number the tool cleans them; letters or other characters make it invalid.
  • Do not test or store someone else's ID number without permission; it is personal data.

Frequently asked questions

Does the validator look up a real person?

No. The tool only checks mathematical conditions: 11 digits, first digit not 0, and the 10th and 11th digit rules. It does not show whether the number belongs to a person or is registered.

Is a number that passes a real one?

A number that satisfies the rule does not have to belong to a real person. A random 11-digit number passing the rule is unlikely but not impossible, so the result is only a format check.

Is it safe to type my own number?

The check runs in your browser and the number is not sent to a server. Still, it is good practice not to share your ID number unnecessarily; you can use the example number on the page to try it.

What is it good for when filling in forms?

Catching typos: a number with one wrong digit usually fails the rule. For official verification use the relevant institution's lookup service.
