| 2,1,3-5 | First two pages swap, the rest in order |
| 1,1,2 | Page 1 twice, then page 2 |
| 1,3,5 | Only pages 1, 3 and 5; the others are dropped |
When it helps
- Fixing a scan whose pages came out in the wrong order.
- Putting front and back scans into the correct sequence.
- Moving or duplicating a page in a printout.
Things to keep in mind
- The new PDF contains only the pages you list; a page you forget will be missing. Make sure you list them all.
- Bookmarks and form fields may not carry over; page content and appearance are kept.
- Your original file is untouched; the result downloads as a new file.
Fixing double-sided scans
When a two-sided document is scanned on a single-sided feeder, pages often come out as "all fronts, then all backs". For a 3-sheet document the correct order would be 1,4,2,5,3,6. If the backs came out in reverse order you may need to interleave them accordingly; typing the exact order you want is the most flexible approach. After reordering, open the file and check the first and last pages.
Check the pages before you type the order
For a long document, the easiest way to get the order right is to open the PDF in a viewer first and note the page numbers in thumbnail view. Most desktop PDF readers and browsers offer this view. Once you have your notes, type the order using commas or ranges (for example 1-4,7,5,6).
Compare the page count of the new file with the original; if you forgot a page, the number will be short. If you only want to take out part of the document, the PDF split tool is a better fit, and to combine several files into one, use the PDF merge tool.
Frequently asked questions
How do I rearrange PDF pages?
Choose the file and type the new order (e.g. 3,1,2). A new PDF is built in exactly that order.
Can I reverse the pages?
Yes. Type "reverse" in the order field and the pages are arranged from last to first.
What happens to pages I do not list?
The new PDF contains only the pages you list. A page listed twice is duplicated; a page left out is dropped.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser.
