Text Tools
For things like word and character counting — quick checks you need before publishing or submitting a piece of text.
What's in this category?
The text tools split into three jobs. For measuring, there are the Word Counter and the Word Frequency Counter: one shows how long a text is, the other shows which words it leans on. For cleaning up, there are the Duplicate Line Remover, Text Line Sorter, Turkish Character Fixer and URL Slug Generator. These are especially handy for lists and data pasted from a spreadsheet or an old system.
For comparing and reading, the Text Diff Checker highlights line differences between two versions, while the Bionic Reading Converter and Text to Speech give you another way to take in a text. The Lorem Ipsum Generator fills a layout with placeholder text so you can judge a design before the real copy is ready.
Which tool for which job?
- To stay within the word limit of an assignment or application, use the Word Counter.
- To check whether you repeat the same word too often, use the Word Frequency Counter.
- To clean duplicates out of an email list copied from Excel, use the Duplicate Line Remover, then put it in alphabetical order with the Text Line Sorter.
- If text imported from an old system shows strings like "ş" or "ı" where Turkish letters should be, the Turkish Character Fixer repairs it.
- To see what changed between two drafts of a contract or article, use the Text Diff Checker.
- To hear how your writing flows, play it back with Text to Speech.
Things to keep in mind
- Word counts can differ slightly between tools, because hyphenated words and numbers may be counted differently. If a hard limit applies, trust the counter on the platform you submit to.
- Stripping Turkish characters cannot be undone. For example, the difference between dotless "ı" and "i" is lost, so keep the original.
- When sorting lines, capital letters and Turkish letters such as Ç, Ş and Ü may not land where you expect. Skim the result.
- The voice and pronunciation in Text to Speech depend on your browser and operating system. Without a voice for the text's language installed, playback may sound off.
Using text tools together
When preparing a text for publication, these tools work best in order: first clean up extra spaces and line breaks, then make the capitalisation consistent, and finally check the word and character count. If you do it the other way round, the counts change after cleaning and you have to check again.
