Things to note
- The dönüm is officially 1,000 m², but regional usage can differ; rely on the area stated in the title deed before a sale.
- Gross and net floor area differ in housing; this tool only converts units and does not work out the gross-to-net difference.
- Square feet are common in US and UK listings; 1 m² is about 10.76 ft².

Roughly working out the area of a plot
For a rectangular plot, area is length times width: 25 m × 40 m = 1,000 m², which is one dönüm or about a quarter of an acre. For a triangle, multiply the base by the height and halve it: a triangle with a 30 m base and 20 m height is 300 m². Splitting an irregular plot into a few rectangles and triangles and adding up their areas is a practical way to get a rough figure.
Measurements like this are only estimates. For a purchase or any official process, the area recorded in the title deed and land registry is what counts, and if the boundaries are in doubt, ask a licensed surveyor to measure the land.
