Midjourney
Midjourney is a text-to-image AI tool, known in particular for the artistic, visually striking quality of its output. It started out as a Discord-only tool and now also has its own web interface.
Use cases
It's widely used by artists and designers for concept art, illustration, social media visuals, or just visualizing an idea quickly.
Good to know
Getting the result you want usually takes a few attempts at refining the prompt, and it's worth checking the platform's own rules around usage rights for generated images.
Key features
Midjourney creates images from a written description. It first worked only through Discord and now also has its own web interface. A prompt usually produces several alternative images, and you can then upscale one or ask for variations. Settings such as aspect ratio and style intensity are controlled with parameters added at the end of the prompt. Use generally requires a subscription, and since plan details change often, take the current information from the official page.
Getting better results
A good prompt names the subject, setting, lighting, camera angle and style separately, for example "a rainy Istanbul street at night, neon reflections, cinematic wide angle". Instead of rewriting a result you like from scratch, make small changes; altering one element at a time shows what actually matters. You can use exclusion parameters to leave out things you do not want. See our Prompts section for ideas.
Copyright and alternatives
Commercial use and copyright status of generated images can vary with the plan and with national law, so read the platform's terms before using images for a commercial job. Images that imitate real people or existing brands can cause trouble. For more control and different pricing, alternatives such as Leonardo AI exist.
Who is it for?
Midjourney suits designers, illustrators and content creators who care about visual quality. Anyone wanting a quick free trial should first check the current access terms.
